About
Counterglow is built by a small group who kept rebuilding the same website and eventually admitted it.
We make websites for observatories, ferry companies and people who write things down. The same three problems kept appearing: editors were afraid of the CMS, developers were afraid of the upgrade, and everyone was afraid of the migration.
How we work
Small scope, plain tools, and a strong preference for the option that will still be understandable in five years. If a feature needs a build step to explain itself, it usually needs a rethink.
Why the name
The counterglow — Gegenschein in the original German — is a faint oval of light directly opposite the sun in the night sky. It is sunlight scattered straight back at you by dust between the planets. Almost nobody has seen it: it is too dim to notice unless the sky is very dark and you already know where to look.
It seemed like the right thing to name a CMS after. The software is not the point. The light it throws on your writing is.
